Eye That Gazes: Surreal Poem
Eye that Gazes
Eye that gazes through concrete windows to pageant worlds
Multiple suns nestle at the feet of Mother Earth
Lakes collect into clouds underfoot
Butterfly fish swim in pools of paper mache
Waves trudge back to rejoin oceans that harbor no horizons, no guilt
Woodlands line the shore of infinite darkness, and light case no memories of sin and separateness
Shades pass darkness light the way home
There, trees hold hands beneath night clouds that just lay there
This is where the rivers go to rest from their long journey into nowhere
Effigies of people wear clay faces and asphalt leggings
Anvils cry out where toes once tapped
And mouths speak words that can only be whispered loud enough for no one to hear.
All roads led across frozen lakes where the cold air press against sheets of white
Traceless tracks mosey through cogs of time that angled deep in the ice,
Where clock faces gaze upon tireless travelers with eyes that see only summer.
Darkly painted prisms dangle below hollow moons
Wounded dove rain from the sky painting rooftops in soggy crimson feathers
Mercurial rivers rush by carrying liquid anguish, collecting into pools of despair
Blackbirds sing songs of dreadful limitation
Dormant seeds sprout from errant soil, giving blossom to gardens of infamy
In the foothills, a man crouches to gather stones that shed light on his divinity
Shadows aimed at the sun
A headless corpse twisted into perfection
searches the ground for the unknowable and become lost
Poison fruit drip from his fingertips,
Droplets of desolation plummet to the earth
Striking the ground with thunderous quietude
awakening sleep from its slumber to see through an eye that gazes.
